Yesterday I had the honor of photographing this beautiful little man. He was 11 days old and one of the prettiest babies I have ever seen. I bet you can guess what his name is.

I went to the Pinhook in downtown Durham to see a few friends' bands play last night. Both bands were great. If you ever have the opportunity to see either Wembley or Maple Stave you should really go. It is a bit difficult to photograph is such low light conditions but I did get a few shots that I really like. I really like this one:

No, I did not mess with the color on this one. The stage has red and blue lights shining on the stage. Blue lights are particularly problematic. They are not exactly flattering.
Red stage lights tend to be the bane of concert photographers existence. With digital sensors, the image is data is comprised of three separate channels: red, green, and blue. The main problem with shooting under red lights is an excess of red light and and a deficiency in the other two channels. As a result, it’s very difficult to achieve a natural look to the images, as the image quickly loses detail and acuity due to an over-saturation of the red channel.
So, what to do? I could either go with it, like I did in the photo above, or I could change it to black and white; which looks cool in its own right.
It was an easy desition for a few of them. These two looked better in black and white.

But this one I can not decide. What do you think? Do you like the weird colors of the stage lights or do you like the black and white?

These are photos taken in Mystic CT. I spent most of my summers growing up in Mystic. My grandmother lives there and my parents now live there. I know very few places on earth as wonderful as Mystic.
